Porto Chamber approved recommendation to ban heavy vehicles at VCI

The executive led by Rui Moreira approved on Monday a recommendation to the Government to immediately ban heavy traffic on the Via de Cintura Interna (VCI), exempting them from tolls on the A41 (External External Circular of Porto - CREP).

In the document, the municipality states that, with the works to expand the metro network, a significant worsening of the current scenario is anticipated on that road, which, in itself, is already negative and penalizing the city of Porto.

“The time seems to us to act and to ask the Government to look at this matter in another way. We are not even proposing that light traffic be [prohibited], it could also lighten this load, but at first, heavy traffic, because this is the one that causes the most embarrassment ”, defended Moreira, quoted by the newspaper Público .

According to the same newspaper, the proposal also deserved the agreement of the Socialist Party and, remembering that the CDU has always defended the end of the tolls at CREP, councilor Ilda Figueiredo said she hoped that the Government would show openness to resolve the VCI problem.
