Intervention works begin in January 2021
The requalification work of Bairro dos Pescadores will include “pilot” interventions in one of the buildings, an action that also aims to encourage owners to implement improvement works in the remaining properties.
The interventions carried out by the municipality will focus on the exterior walls, the roof and the replacement of all exterior spans.
As for the exteriors, they will fall in the rehabilitation and requalification of the entire surrounding area, mainly through the execution of new floors and respective infrastructures, as well as the garden parts.
The estimated total value of this operation will be 1 million euros, and in this first phase, and as explained by Tiago Maia, administrator of MatosinhosHabit, «Intervention was included in the outdoor spaces and only in a housing block, where MatosinhosHabit is mostly owner. The objective is that this action will serve as a reference for the private owners of the remaining buildings to proceed with works, which may be covered by the “1st Law” housing program ».
The ultimate goal, says the MatosinhosHabit administrator, is to improve the quality of life for residents. «We want to open the neighborhood to the city, both physically and socially», He stresses.
The final project is the result of a participatory process among residents, including the Association of Residents of the Fishermen's Neighborhood of Matosinhos (AMBPM).
Located in the municipality of Matosinhos, the Bairro dos Pescadores is a housing complex composed of several housing blocks, some of which are jointly owned, of public and private housing, as is the case of the block to be intervened.
