Distributed by several parishes, this is an essential support in promoting decent housing in the municipality

MatosinhosHabit has just incorporated 19 more Matosinhense families in the municipal lease support program.

These families are distributed throughout the municipality of Matosinhos.

Applications to the PMAA took place last April and despite the restrictions on serving the public, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, MatosinhosHabit remained active and took care of calls and processes remotely.

During the confinement period, MatosinhosHabit also took the opportunity to launch the online application platform for PMAA and housing programs.

Implemented in 2009, the Municipal Rental Support Program emerges with the purpose of providing adequate solutions to housing problems in Matosinhos, supporting around 700 families in the municipality through the income subsidy.

In total, the municipality's annual investment is around € 855.651,60.

James Maia, administrator of MatosinhosHabit, stresses the importance of the continuity of the PMAA:

“The values applied in the private rental market complicate the access of many families to obtain a home, since many do not meet the criteria for the allocation of social housing.

On the other hand, households often face adverse situations, such as unemployment and illness, which implies a decrease in income and, consequently, inability to bear the responsibilities related to housing.

The PMAA is, therefore, an alternative to social housing, avoiding evictions related, for example, to evictions. »

A MatosinhosHabit it bases its action on the right to housing, which includes urban rehabilitation, in addition to providing dignified residence for all citizens.

He is also responsible for projects for development and social integration and for the continuous improvement of the population's quality of life, in addition to the management of the municipal buildings.
